You may have thought that starting a portal site is something that would be difficult and expensive to do. Well - it can be if you had to pay someone to do it for you. The good news is that it can be done for absolutely no cost (other than a domain name and hosting - about $9.00 per year for a domain and $10.00 per month for hosting) just by following the simple instructions in this videos series.

I am going to show you how to set up a fully featured portal site using Wordpress.

Now I know what you're thinking. "Wordpress is a Blogging platform". Right?

Well yes, but it has become capable of so much more than that. People have developed thousands of modules called plugins that add functionality to Wordpress. This has transformed it into my personal platform of choice. In fact I run membership sites, portals, regular websites, eCommece stores and blogs using Wordpress, but that is a conversation for another time. In my opinion Wordpress is one of the most flexible free scripts out there that maintains it's ease of use.

You might be wondering why I didn't choose Joomla or Drupal. Well - I just stated the reason in the previous sentence.

It is just far easier to do it with Wordpress. There are some other reasons too, like more plugins are available and there is an endless number of free theme templates out there for Wordpress. Believe me, I did the research and this is the best way to do it without having to burn up too many brain cells or driving yourself to drink.
